REAL ESTATE PROPERTY TAX REMINDER NOTICES SENT
 A Friendly Reminder About Real Estate Property Taxes Due!
Real Estate reminder notices are in the mail. 2009 Real Estate taxes are due no later than March 31, 2010. Beginning April 1, 2010 all 2009 property taxes that are unpaid become delinquent.
Note: If a delinquent payment is not received by 5:00 PM, May 26, 2010., a Tax Certificate will be sold, creating a lien, and the property may be in jeopardy.

 Winner Of The Online Customer Service Survey Drawing
On Tuesday, March 2, 2010, Martha Burke, Director of Compliance & Taxpayer Affairs for the Tax Collector's Office, awarded Jose Lopez a $100 Publix Gift Card for participating in our recent online survey. Jose's name was selected at random from over 1,700 names submitted into the drawing. Jose learned of the $100 drawing because he was one of over 40,000 online customers who received an email inviting them to participate in addition to all of our walk-in visitors! Jose is a billing manager for a local durable medical goods retailer in Winter Haven and states that he prefers to do his transactions online.
Note: No taxpayer funds were used for the awarding of a gift card.

BUY 2009 KIDS TAG ART!
 Start The New Year By Ordering A Kids Art Tag
Kids Tag Art, a fundraising project that inspires fifth grade art students to design their own specialty plate art, announces fifth grade students who recently received the 2009 Awards of Distinction.
This year, 130 students' tag art designs were selected from fifth graders from all across Polk County. These designs will become part of the 2009 Kids Tag Art display, a mobile collage of license tag art which will travel around the county over the coming months.

PAY WITH VISA ONLINE; BUT NOT IN TAX OFFICES
 Visa Everywhere Except In The Tax Collector's Office
Effective May 1, 2009, VISA will no longer be accepted at the counter in Tax Collector's Office branches. VISA has ordered government agencies, including the Polk County Tax Collector's Office, to stop conducting lawful counter service payment transactions for tax payments, such as vehicle registration and business taxes. VISA is requiring government agencies, including the Tax Collector's Office, to sign merchant agreements that would force them to pass on VISA's charges to all customers, not just those who are using their credit cards at the counter.
MasterCard, American Express & Discover continue to be accepted by the Tax Collector's Office at the counter, through the mail, by way of automated telephone and online at www.PolkTaxes.com. Because of VISA's order, the Tax Collector's Office is limited to accepting VISA by way of mail, automated telephone and online transactions. For more information, click here...
