NEW BUSINESSES GET A BREAK
03/25/03 - BARTOW
Beginning April 1st (through July 31st), new businesses can get their county occupational "licence" tax receipt for only ½ (one-half) of the cost of an annual license.
The Polk County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) requires all businesses located and/or operating in Polk County (excluding those which are exempt) to pay an annual occupational tax. The Occupational Tax is administered by the Tax Collector's Office.
A receipt for payment of the Occupational Tax is commonly referred to as an Occupational "License." An individual or business that pays the Occupational Tax is only granted the privilege of doing business in Polk County.
However, the county's occupational "license" tax ordinance and state law allow for a prorated fee of ½ (one-half) of the cost of an annual tax reciept for new businesses beginning April 1st through the July 31st.
Payment of the occupational tax does not constitute the approval of any governing authority responsible for overseeing and/or regulating a trade, practice, activity or service, etc.
New occupational "licenses" may be obtained by visiting one of the Tax Collector's Branch Offices during regular business hours,
8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (excluding weekends and holidays):
· Main
Branch Office in Bartow at 430 E. Main Street;
· Lakeland
Branch Office in the Polk County Government Center at 930 E. Parker
Street;
· Lake Wales Branch Office in the Polk County
Government Center at 642 State Road 60; and,
· Haines City
Branch Office at 900 Lily Avenue.
