TAX COLLECTOR ADVISES PROPERTY OWNERS TO MAIL TAX PAYMENTS
Increased wait times expected when 3% Discount Deadline ends Monday, December 31st.
BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/December 26, 2007
One of the busiest days in the Tax Collector's Office will be Monday, December 31. That's because Monday is the last day property owners have to receive a 3% discount on their 2007 property tax bills. Also, it’s your last chance to pay your property taxes in 2007 so that they can be deducted from your 2007 Income Tax return.
The Tax Collector's Office is estimating over 3,000 customers will come through their offices this Monday. That's almost three times the normal walk-in traffic.
Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County is encouraging taxpayers to mail in their tax payments instead of paying in person during the busy tax season. "Our goal is for no one to wait more than 10 minutes to be served. We meet that goal most every day and encouraging taxpayers to pay through the mail helps with that and reduces taxpayer dollars and time," states Tedder. "Just like with the payment of income taxes, the date your envelope is postmarked is what’s important. You have until midnight on Monday, December 31 to receive the 3% discount."
Taxpayers who make payments by mail can use their cancelled check as a receipt or they can go to www.polktaxes,com and print off a receipt for taxes paid.
Mail must be postmarked on or before midnight on December 31 in order to receive the discounted rate.
