Public to See Doubling of DMV Fees
Substantial fee increases on September 1 will affect all licensed vehicles.
BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/June 16, 2009
On September 1, 2009, vehicle registrations and renewals for all vehicles will more than double. The cost of transferring a car's title is going up 78 percent as well. And if you are buying an additional vehicle, you will be looking at an increase from $100.00 to $225.00, a 125% increase.
During the 2009 State Legislative session, DMV fees were substantially increased for all Florida motor vehicle owners. The new amounts are effective beginning September 1, 2009.
Tax collectors across the state are racing to communicate this information to the public. Vehicle owners with registrations that expire no later than November 30, 2009 may save money by renewing their registrations on or before August 31, 2009 and pay the lower fee amounts one more year.
"My biggest disappointment is how greatly this will impact our customers who come into our offices to renew their vehicle registrations, " states Joe Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County. "I want the people to know that this increase is not being used to pay for Tax Collector services. In fact, Tax Collectors have not received an increase to pay for state vehicle registration service since 1985."
To qualify for lower fees, vehicle registrations (including mail-ins) must be received on or before August 31, 2009.
