MONDAY NOVEMBER 30TH IS DEADLINE TO RECEIVE 4% PROPERTY TAX DISCOUNT

BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/November 24, 2009

The Tax Collector reminds property owners that Monday is the last day to take advantage of the 4% discount. Payments must be postmarked or received by 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 30th to receive the discount rate. Click here for more information.

During the busy Thanksgiving holiday week, it's easy to overlook getting that important tax payment in on time. Joe Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County, is encouraging taxpayers to get their tax payment in early, save money, and avoid the rush.

With the last day of November falling on a Monday this year, the Tax Collector's Office is expecting larger than normal crowds as taxpayers hurry to receive their 4% discount off property tax bills. Payments received or postmarked after the November 30 deadline will not qualify for the reduced rate. Discount rates decrease one percentage point each month until March, at which time the full tax amount is due. Property tax bills become delinquent after March 31st.

Property owners are also reminded that bills may be paid in person, online, over the telephone or by mail. Property owners have until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30 to make payments in-person at any of the Tax Collector Branch offices at the following locations:

BARTOW MAIN Branch Office - 430 E. Main Street, Bartow

LAKELAND Branch Office - Polk County Government Center, 930 E. Parker Street, Lakeland

HAINES CITY Branch Office - 74 Maxcy Plaza Circle, Haines City

LAKE WALES Branch Office - Polk County Government Center, Lake Wales Plaza, 642 State Road 60 West, Lake Wales

Finally, tax payments may be placed in drop boxes located inside the branch offices at the above locations and at the Winter Haven Tag Agency, located at 300 Avenue M, N.W. Normal office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding weekends and holidays).

Individuals who have not yet received their tax bill are encouraged to contact the Tax Collector's Office at (863) 534-4721.
