PROPERTY TAX BILLS IN THE MAIL
Taxpayers Should Look For Property Tax Bills In Mailboxes This Week
BARTOW, Florida/ PR Free/ October 27, 2011
Polk County Tax Collector Joe G. Tedder reports that the 2011 property tax notices to all of Polk County's property owners are being mailed out on October 29. "Property owners should be looking for their bills in the mail very soon," says Tedder. "We make every effort to inform taxpayers that their taxes are due regardless of whether they receive their bill. Florida law clearly places the burden of responsibility for payment of taxes on the property owner. So, every year we remind taxpayers to contact our offices if they do not receive their bill."
This week, 334,674 property tax bills will go out in the mail to Polk's property owners. Property owners who have opted to pay by installment will not receive a November bill; instead, they will be notified of third quarter installment payments due December 1.
Taxes for 2011 have a total taxable amount of $514,206,073 as compared to last year's tax roll which had a total taxable amount of $ 544,666,391. This year's tax roll represents a 6% decrease in taxes and assessments billed from the prior year and down 27% from three years ago.
Tedder's office also provides an informational insert with the tax notice to help answer taxpayer questions. The insert includes a listing of taxing and levying authorities and their telephone numbers as well as a brief description of taxes and/or assessments that may appear on an individual's tax bill.
Property owners who do not receive their property tax notice(s) by Monday, November 14 should contact the Tax Collector's Office. Local callers may call (863) 534-4700; callers outside the local access area may call toll free (855) 765-5829 [855-POLK-TAX].
