PROPERTY TAX INSTALLMENT PLAN EASES TAX BURDEN
Deadline For Enrollment Is April 30
BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/April 17, 2012
Joe G. Tedder reminds property owners that April 30 is the deadline for applying for the 2012 Property Tax Installment Program. If you prefer to pay your property taxes in quarterly payments, you have until the end of the month to register with the tax office.
"Property owners will receive almost the same discount as if they paid in November," Tedder states, "but this way, taxpayers only have to come up with one fourth of the payment at a time, which eases their payment burden a bit."
The installment option allows homeowners to pay their property taxes in four payments rather than the full payment options made available every fall when taxes become due. Once enrolled in the program, participants do not have to re-apply unless they fail to make the first installment by June 30, in which case the applicant will be dropped from the program and must re-apply.
Applications for the plan can be obtained at the Tax Collector's website, www.PolkTaxes.com or at any of the Tax Collector's four service centers around the county. Homeowners must have more than $100 in estimated taxes. The first payment would be made by June 30 and subsequent payments would be due on September 30, December 31, and March 31.
The first two payments are based on the prior year's taxes. After the tax roll is certified, the last two payments will be adjusted to reflect a homeowner's actual taxes.
