In order to participate in the property tax installment payment plan, the property owner must apply prior to May 1st of the tax year for which the application is being made and the property taxes for the previous year must have been more than $100.00.

If a property taxpayer is already participating in the installment payment plan for the current tax year, they do not need to reapply; they will automatically be reenrolled.

Taxes are paid in four installments, as follows:

  • First, in June with a 6% discount;

  • Second, in September with a 4.5% discount;

  • Third, in December with a 3% discount; and,

  • Fourth, in March without a discount.

The first installment payment is due no later than June 30th of the tax year in order to remain on the plan.

Partial Payments

Chapter 197.374 Florida Statute allows a taxpayer to make partial payments of the current year taxes.

If a taxpayer enters into an agreement with the Tax Collector they agree to pay an additional $10.00 processing fee per payment, forfeit any discounts, maintain a record of the remaining balance due and make final payment of all taxes by March 31 of year following property tax assessment to avoid a tax certificate being sold (tax lien) on the property.

Note: Property tax assessments are made on January 1 each year by the Property Appraiser.

In order to make partial payments regarding a current Polk County Property Tax Bill, the taxpayer must complete, initial where indicated and sign the required affidavit form for each applicable property tax account. Once completed, the affidavit form should be submitted to the Polk County Tax Collector's Office with the tax payer's first partial payment.
