Transfer Of Ownership On A Florida Title |
When seeking to transfer ownership of a
commercial truck or tractor in
Florida you must bring the following to any Branch and/or Tag Office of the Tax Collector:
- Florida title properly completed by
the seller; and,
- A copy of the current registration to be transferred if applicable.
Also, each applicant must be present to sign the new application for
title.
Note: Applicants may request a Fast Title for an additional $10. The title is provided by the Tax Collector's Office at the time of application. Fast Titles can be obtained at all Branch and/or Tag Offices of the Tax Collector.

Title Application On A New
Commercial Truck Or Tractor |
If you have purchased a commercial truck or tractor (new or used) from a Florida dealership,
the dealer is required by law to process the application for title.
If you have purchased a
new commercial truck or tractor from an out-of-state dealership, an Applcation for Title may be completed and submitted at a Branch and/or
Tag Office of the Tax
Collector.
Applications For
Certificate Of Title may be obtained and completed prior to visiting
one of our Branch/Tag Offices.

The following
items are needed in addition to a completed Application For
Certificate Of Title:
- A manufacturers certificate of origin;
- A bill of sale or invoice listing the
purchase price, sales tax paid, and any trade-in allowance -
please note additional sales tax may be due;
- A Federal odometer statement;
- Any applicable lienholder information;
- For commercial trucks and tractors with a declared gross vehicle weight of 26,001 pounds or more proof of insurance:

Acceptable forms of proof are as follows -
- Certificate of Self Insurance issued by HSMV;
- Form E, Uniform Motor Carrier Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability;
- Proof of self insurance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration;
- Policy which provides the required coverage;
- Insurance policy binder which provides the required coverage;
- Certificate of insurance issued on insurance form only (must reflect policy number and levels of insurance coverage); or,
- Depositing a surety bond with HSMV issued by a surety company authorized to do business in Florida or a combination of a surety bond and insurance policy which satisfies the requirements of section 320.02(5)(e), Florida Statutes.
When transferring a license plate, the
current registration or plate and decal number;
Also each
applicant must sign the application.
(If completing an
application in our office, each person applying for ownership
must be present to sign the title application.)

When seeking to register a commercial truck or tractor that
was previously titled out-of-state, an Application
For Certificate Of Title must be completed and submitted to a Tax Collector's Branch/Tag Office. An Application for Title may be obtained and completed prior
to visiting one of our Branch/Tag

The following items are also
required:
- The out-of-state title certificate in
your name or assigned to you;
- If your vehicle is financed - complete
lienholder information - including account number, lienholder name
and mailing address;
- A vehicle identification odometer verification form, which must be completed by a law enforcement officer, or a Florida notary, a
Florida Division of Motor Vehicles compliance examiner, the U.S. Military Police, or a Florida licensed car dealer
(Note: Completing
Section 7 of the Application For Certificate Of Title fulfills this requirement);
- For commercial trucks and tractors with a declared gross vehicle weight of 26,001 pounds or more proof of insurance:

Florida Use Tax may be due if the vehicle
was purchased less than 6 months prior to importing the vehicle to
Florida. Proof of any sales tax paid to another state will be
required.
Also, the full 6% Florida Use Tax and any applicable local option tax is due on all vehicles imported from foreign countries.
Note: Applicants may request a Fast Title for an additional $10. The title is provided by the Tax Collector's Office at the time of application. Fast Titles can be obtained at all Branch and/or Tag Offices of the Tax Collector, excluding the Haines City Branch Office.
