Property Tax Deadline Means Long Lines at Tax Collector Service Centers

POLK COUNTY, Fla. –Tax Collector Joe G. Tedder urges people to avoid long lines that typically form inside the Polk County service centers at the end of March when property taxes come due, by utilizing the various payment options that do not require an in-person visit. The last week of March has some of the busiest days in the Tax Collector’s service centers! Property taxes always come due on the last day of March, which falls on a Sunday this year.

Customers have until Friday, March 29th, to pay what they owe in person at a service center by 5:00 p.m. Additionally, there are drop boxes for payments located inside the lobbies of all service centers. Customers can make online payments, however, through Sunday, March 31st , at www.PolkTaxes.com. Payments can also be mailed to P.O. Box 1189, Bartow, FL, 33831, and considered “on time” with a March postmark.

Last March, tax collector service center team members logged more than 15,000 transactions during the final week of March; there were 64,500 transactions performed during the month of March last year.

“We serve such a variety of needs for our customers, from vehicle registration renewals to giving road tests for driver’s licenses,” Tedder stated, “when you factor in the March deadline for property tax payments, our lobbies can be extremely busy places.

“Time is precious. No one wants to spend it waiting in line,” he continued, “so, we offer many options through which people can avoid the lines!”

Tedder reminds those who need to renew their vehicle registrations of the available options like ‘Florida MV Express’ KIOSK machines located in the Lakeland and Davenport service centers and at Publix in the Grove Park and Plantation Square shopping centers in Lakeland. Additionally, the Express PICKUP service allows people to renew their registrations at www.PolkTaxes.com and pick up the decals the same day at a service center, without waiting in line.
