POLK COUNTY BUSINESSES REMINDED TO RENEW TAX RECEIPTS IN SEPTEMBER
POLK COUNTY, Fla. — The deadline for Polk County business owners is approaching; businesses must renew their annual Business Tax Receipt (BTR) by September 30 to avoid late fees.
The BTR is a required tax which comes due each year for anyone with a business located in or operating in Polk County. Generally, the revenue collected through this tax goes to the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) and is used to support the county’s economic development efforts.
Beginning on October 1, payments are considered late and will face an added penalty fee of an additional 10% (plus collection costs). The penalty rate rises each month, through March.
At www.PolkTaxes.com/services/local-business-taxes/, tools are available through which to:
- Conveniently make payments.
- Review all BTR information.
- New business owners can visit the site to download the BTR application to mail or return in person to a Tax Collector service center.
“Don’t let a missed deadline cost your business more than it should,” Tax Collector Joe G. Tedder said. “Renew your Business Tax Receipt by September 30 and keep unnecessary late fees out of your bottom line.”
Compliant businesses will display their current BTR. (The valid receipt to display at a business for 2026-2027 will be blue in color.)
If a customer does not have access to the Tax Collector website, BTR payments may be made in person at a Tax Collector Service Center or sent by mail (and considered ‘on time’ if postmarked before October 1) to PO Box 2016, Bartow, FL, 33831-2016.
