Renewals
Those holding a Florida Commercial Driver License may renew their license at one of the Tax Collector’s Service Centers up to 12 months prior to expiration. To make an appointment, click here.
Commercial Learners Permit (CLP)
To obtain a CLP, customers must pass the required Written Exam(s). For more information on CLP and CDL requirements, click here. To schedule an appointment for the Written Exam(s), click here. Upon passing the required exams, the commercial learners permit will be issued same day.
Original Commercial Driver License (CDL)
After retaining the CLP for a minimum of 14 days, those wishing to obtain an original CDL, upon passing the Skills Exams, must come in one of the Tax Collector’s Service Centers to be issued a CDL. To make an appointment, click here.
Endorsements
A Written Exam must be passed to add an endorsement to an existing CDL. Some endorsements may require additional Skills Exam testing. To make an appointment for a Written Exam, click here.
Address and Residency Requirements
All customers applying for an original CDL or a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) must present 1 document from each category listed below to establish Florida residency.
List A – One Item Needed (Must Be in Applicant’s Name)
- A Florida Voter Registration Card (Supervisor of Elections)
- A statement of domicile pursuant to section 222.17, F.S. (Clerk of Courts)
- A homestead tax exemption filing on property in this state (i.e. Tax Bill, Trim Notice) (Property Appraiser)
Must be held for a period of more than six consecutive months:
- Florida Class E Driver License or Florida Identification card (If Class E license/ID used for residency 2 proofs of address still required from options below)
- Lease agreement, in the customer’s name
- Residential mortgage, in the customer’s name
- Residential deed, in the customer’s name
List B – One Item Needed (Must Be in Applicant’s Name)
- Latest military orders
- Latest W-2 form or 1099 form
- Mortgage deed for property in Florida
- Homeowner’s insurance policy or bill
- Valid Florida Vessel registration or title
- Valid Florida Vehicle registration or title
Must be dated within the last 30 – 60 Days:
- Electricity or water bill
- Cellular or landline telephone bill
- Internet service provider bill
- Credit card/bank statement
- Pay stub
- Official government documents
